MEET THE AUTHOR

Gaylene B Corben

Gaylene lives on the beautiful South Coast of New South Wales with her husband, Rob, and their Labrador Retriever, Maxie. She writes contemporary Australian crime fiction featuring Detectives Joseph Paterson and Tessa Mariani.

Before becoming a novelist, Gaylene taught high school science, then transitioned into the financial services industry, where she wrote policy documents and training guides. She holds a Science degree, a postgraduate Compliance degree, a Diploma of Education, and has completed writing courses through the Australian Writers’ Centre.

Gaylene inherited her love of photography from her parents, and the South Coast’s spectacular scenery, native wildlife and ever-changing landscapes provide endless inspiration. Her passion for photography is reflected in her novels through police photographer Olivia Chatfield.

In their spare time, Gaylene and Rob enjoy walks along the river with Maxie, boating and travel.

Experience shapes every page

From science to suspense

A background in science, education, compliance and professional writing informs Gaylene’s careful research, clear storytelling and interest in how evidence can reveal, or conceal, the truth.

Inspired by the coast

The waterways, villages, wildlife and shifting moods of the New South Wales South Coast help shape the atmosphere of Gaylene’s contemporary Die For crime novels.

AWAY FROM THE DESK

Life, landscapes and a Labrador

Photography allows Gaylene to notice the telling details of a place: the changing light on the river, native birds along the shoreline and the quiet moments that can later find their way into a scene.

Time with Rob and Maxie, boating and travel provide both a welcome break from writing and a continuing source of ideas.
